High Desert Ranch & Outfitting

How can we improve your habitat

Onsite assessment

Most ecosystems are degraded simply because people don't know what to look for or where to start. With years of experience and training, we have a fine tuned eye for seeing areas of improvement for the land. We want to explore your ranch with you to make an assessment and action plan for the areas for improvement so that we can make your hard earned land thrive. Once we go over the areas of improvement, we can prioritize projects and move at your pace. Keep in mind, when it comes to habitat improvement, every small project will have huge positive effects for your land. Below are some of the things we can do for you.

Fence removal

Woven wire or "sheep fence" is detrimental to wildlife travel corridors and is responsible for killing thousands of deer, elk, pronghorn, sage grouse and more every year. If a fence is not needed for your livestock operations, it should be removed to restore the land back to the way it once was. We have built and patented our own wire winder that makes fence removal quick and easy compared to doing it by hand.

Fence construction

If fences are mandatory for your regenerative grazing practices, we have years of experience with commercial fence construction. We only build fence that is wildlife friendly, effective at keeping livestock in or out, and built to last throughout the harsh conditions NW Colorado has to offer.

Road & Trail construction and maintence

Adequate access is a necessity on ranch land, and it is also possible to have access without negatively affecting the ecosystem. We specialize in gaining access while keeping soil disturbance at a minimum. This often looks like mowing/ clearing brush and trees rather than dozing. We install culverts, water bars, and reseed anywhere that soil disturbance is necessary to achieve the long term goal. Low maintenance and minimum erosion is our goal.

Water restoration

Water is crucial for  regenerative grazing, adequate wildlife, and an overall  healthy ecosystem. We can provide solutions to restore your water resources from rebuilding degraded stock ponds, to using regenerative grazing to fix your water cycle. Even in places that currently do not have water, we can provide solutions for solar wells.

Soil Health

Improving the habitat on your ranch quite literally starts from the ground up. Our knowledge and training on the soil health principles are used to recognize the signs of a broken ecosystem and how to fix it. If you spend thousands of dollars spraying weeds and still have weeds, we can help. If you have bare soil and erosion, we can help. Healthy soil makes your ranch drought resistant because your soil will retain all of the moisture instead if it all running off.

    Our experience with habitat improvement

    About us

Randy grew up working for his dad who had a commercial fencing and contracting business for 25 years. From an early age he learned the value of hard work and providing a high quality service that locals can trust to make their land better. They would later go on to lease 10,500 acres of their own where they would practice regenerative grazing. Working with nature to improve their habitat provides an abundance of wildlife in which they provide high quality guided hunts to clients. Raising our children on our land makes us very passionate about making a positive impact to the land for generations to come.
